Money Saving and Losing Weight

What's that saying? "Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves", I wonder if that applies to weight too..

I've always struggled with my weight, and that includes battling with an eating disorder through out high school. It was hard and pregnancy set me off again. I didn't starve myself but every time I put on weight I cried. And then the weight that is piled on after having a baby made it worse.

And so I set out on a task, to shave pounds off our grocery bill and our waists.

So with that in mind I wrote a menu.

All is homemade. My mother in law makes the most delicious jams! They last ages and are tastier and healthier than supermarket stuff.

So with this in mind I wrote out our shopping list and looked around for the best price. We've been spending £100+ in ASDA and generally coming away with not a lot. And most of it not very healthy.

Our other issue was meat costs a lot and we generally end up with it sat in the freezer for months because we just don't eat that much! So we've cut a lot of that out and that's reduced our bill.

We also get stuff from Approved Food - totally worth checking out. Lots of great deals for stocking your pantry!

As we have a Tesco in our town and Tesco clubcards we set out do our grocery shop from there.

We've also been baking our own bread, making our own flour tortillas (which went down a treat) and I bake our own cakes/biscuits too.

So this month our grocery bill with Tesco instead of ASDA is... £65!

And we're also getting a £20 (including delivery) order from Approved Food. There are a few grocery bits on there and a couple of healthy treats.

Bulgar wheat is £1.50 in Tesco for 500g, but in Approved Food we can get 2kg for that price! Taco shells are also £1.50 in Tesco, but in Approved Food for the same brand it's 39p and they're on offer of 3 for 99p! Yes please!!

Then for healthy treat/nibbles I've got Belvita Breakfast Milk & Cereal bars 4 for £1, Breadsticks with Sea Salt are 5 for £1 and Black Pepper Croutons are 5 for £1.

£70 worth of food for £20 with delivery!

Now to go coupon hunting!
